72.6% of U.S. eighth-graders had basic reading skills or better in 2005, down 1.2% from 2003.

    Thanks for posting that stat. As a teacher I am constantly worried about literacy levels in elementary and middle schools. I think that we as a country should strive to push students into the “advanced reading skills” category. I also believe that the supplies given to us by school districts are not geared towards this level of excellence. I’ve noticed a big difference since I started supplementing the curiculum with supplies I bought from http://www.dedicatedteacher.com and I think most of it has to do with the lack of challenging texts that these kids read.
